We’re so happy to announce our new Noise Mapping Datasets, developed in partnership with Ambient Maps and Geoscape Australia.
Created by acoustic modelling experts, the datasets reimagine noise mapping in Australia—offering invaluable insights on the impact of noise on the urban environment.
The datasets contain noise levels for each building throughout most of Australia. Noise values are generated using SoundPLAN software and are calculated for every storey of each building façade. This then reveals the range of exposure per building, by time of day and noise origin.
The noise values are broken down by time of day, origin of noise, and level of exposure. These breakdowns allow for a nuanced understanding of the impact of noise in urban settings across Australia.
There are two different ways to access the new noise data, either the Transport Noise Overlay or the Transport Noise Dataset Buildings.
The Transport Noise Overlay is the core offering, it relies on raster representation of the noise contours, which contains embedded access to Geoscape Data. This offering is for researchers looking for a simple but effective noise dataset.
The Transport Noise Dataset Buildings is a more detailed and precise dataset. Noise values are provided with building centroids in the form of latitude and longitude. This is derived from the Geoscape Building Footprint, along with the Geoscape Building PIDs. Researchers who purchase this dataset will have full access to this Geoscape data.
We’re so proud to be partnering with Ambient Maps and Geoscape to deliver these datasets to the AURIN community. Ambient Maps are a leader in noise modelling geospatial data and analytics and the intent of our partnership is to provide researchers from academic, government and industry with the most comprehensive and accurate data and insights about noise, at the most competitive rates.
