The launch of AURIN HQ—a new era begins!

Pascal Perez, Director of AURIN

Last week we celebrated our the official launch of new AURIN HQ in the Baldwin-Spencer Building. The event, held on the north lawn outside the building, was a celebration of both our new workspace but also of the exciting future of AURIN.

The event opened with a Welcome to Country and smoke ceremony, led by Uncle Bill Nicholson Jr. It was a powerful and meaningful ceremony, and set the tone for the day’s celebrations.

A highlight of the event for the presentation by celebrated Indigenous artist, Lowell Hunter—known as the Salty One. He spoke about the creative process behind his beautiful sand artwork, which has been burned into the top of our new boardroom table. The table is a centrepiece of the new office space and is not just a functional piece of furniture but is also a symbol of creativity, culture, and collaboration.

Afterwards AURIN’s Director, Professor Pascal Perez, shared his vision for the next phase of AURIN—emphasising the importance of innovation and collaboration in shaping the future of urban research and development.

The new office space was officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony, by the Chair of the AURIN Board, Dr Chris Pigram.

To conclude the event guests were given a tour of the new office space. It’s a workspace that reflects AURIN’s mission to support research that benefits Australian communities and urban environments. The tour showcased the thoughtful integration of art, design, and functionality throughout the building. The future is bright for AURIN and our new headquarters are a reflection of the exciting work ahead of us!
