Following the resignations of Mr Gregory Tucker and Ms Alison Rose from AURIN’s Management Board, we would like to extend a warm welcome to new Board members, Dr Jodie Smith and Mr Peter Francis. Both Jodie and Peter bring a wealth of experience in leadership and, respectively, in science strategy and corporate governance.
Jodie is currently the Oceans, Reefs, Coasts and the Antarctic Branch Head at Geoscience Australia. She has a strong record leading strategic science programs in support of Australia’s national interests. Jodie has over 20 years’ experience leading coastal and blue-water marine research across Australia’s tropical, temperate and Antarctic regions, delivering a scientific evidence-base to inform decision-making. She has led geospatial and resources programs at Geoscience Australia.
Jodie works across the science-policy-law interface and has experience representing the Australian Government in national and international forums. She is an experienced board member, supportive of effective governance in the science and education sectors. She is also a passionate advocate for women and girls in STEM.
Peter is one of Australia’s pre-eminent lawyers on technology commercialisation and has extensive experience working for research organisations and technology developers. He established FAL Lawyers, a commercial law firm recognised as the leading legal experts in research and technology commercialisation. Peter supports innovation and has worked with a diverse array of organisations to turn life-changing ideas into a commercial reality. Prior to establishing FAL Peter led the in-house legal team at Sirotech, CSIRO’s technology transfer company.
Peter has more than 20 years’ experience advising listed companies, Commonwealth and State government agencies, Cooperative Research Centres, higher education providers, SMEs, not-for-profit funded research bodies and healthcare organisations.
We look forward to working together with Jodie and Peter in the coming years to advance AURIN’s mission. We’d also like to extend our thanks to both Greg and Alison for their contributions to AURIN during their tenure as Board Members.
