In October 2024 we’re excited to have members of our team attending the eResearch Australasia Conference in Melbourne.
Tuesday 29 October, 11.50am
‘Modernising Hackathons: Urban Innovation Data Hack 2024 – Hackathon as a service‘
During this session, part of the breakout ‘Reproducible science, Hackathons Containers’, AURIN’s Head of Marketing, Emma Joughin, will present alongside Quentin van der Leest and Dr Tomas Remenyi of Eratos.
They will share lessons from preparing and delivering the Urban Innovation Data Hack 2024, a hackathon supported by data owners and software solution providers across federal and state governments, academia, and industry, which aimed to promote new data, software and platform solutions; to provide an opportunity for participants to skill up; to encourage collaboration; and to provide an innovative and engaging networking opportunity for partners and participants.
This is a great chance to join Emma, Quentin and Tomas as they discuss the barriers and solutions they encountered in making the hackathon a success.
Tuesday 29 October, 12.10pm
‘Addressing the growing Cyber-Security concerns with Digital Research Infrastructure‘
During the breakout ‘Keeping it Secure’, AURIN’s Head of Engineering, Dr Loren Bruns, will present at this Birds of a Feather session alongside Ryan Fraser and Nadia Taggart of AARNet and Ben Chiu of ARDC.
This panel aims to identify and discuss critical gaps in cyber-security within the infrastructure underpinning the academic research sector, exploring the unique vulnerabilities inherent to the academic research environment such as decentralised infrastructures, open-access policies, and the collaborative nature of research projects.
By sharing experiences, best practices, and potential solutions, attendees will have the chance to contribute to strengthening the overall cyber resilience of the academic research community.
Tuesday 29 October, 4.25pm
‘Revealing the invisible: the challenge of measuring and communicating the impact of research infrastructures‘
This Birds of a Feather session, part of the breakout ‘Impact of National Research Infrastructures’, includes staff members from multiple NCRIS facilities: Natalia Bateman (ACCESS-NRI), Jo Condon (AuScope), Dr. Kelsey Druken (ACCESS-NRI), Dr. Christina Hall (Australian BioCommons), Kerry Mora (AAF) and Emma Joughin (AURIN).
During the session, this panel of communications, engagement and strategy experts from across Australia’s national research infrastructures will showcase the different ways they have approached the challenge of measuring and communicating their multifaceted impacts. This will be followed by an open-floor discussion on topics decided by session attendees.
Exhibition Area
We’ll also be present throughout the conference at the AURIN exhibition booth – if you’re attending, please say hello to one of our team members!
This is also a great chance to speak with Dr Jiaying Kou, one of our geospatial experts and training support officers, to learn more about our services, current data offerings, and how we might be able to best help you with your research or other projects.
