AURIN is excited to announce the formation of a new Industry Advisory Committee (IAC), bringing together leaders across the geospatial industry.

The IAC will advise AURIN on strategic priorities and opportunities that will lead to high-value outcomes for industry stakeholders, including new jobs in the private sector, opening up new opportunities for products and services, and supporting the development of Australia’s economy more generally.

The expertise of the IAC will play a crucial role in shaping AURIN’s future, allowing us to better support and respond to opportunities for collaboration, innovation and commercialisation.

Members of the IAC bring with them a wide range of experiences, providing a broad view of the sector and a deep understanding of AURIN’s stakeholders and unique position.

Members of the new IAC are:

  • Michele Adair (CEO, Housing Trust; Chair, Homes Tasmania)
  • Helen Bell (Research Manager, World Green Building Council; Senior Manager – Research, Green Building Council of Australia)
  • Kylie Hargreaves (Chair, Australian Alliance for Energy Productivity; Deputy Chair, Regional Development Australia Sydney)
  • Patrick Hastings (Acting CEO, Infrastructure Sustainability Council)
  • Dr Zaffar Mohamed-Ghouse (Director, Advisory & Innovation, Woolpert Asia-Pacific; Chair, Global Geospatial Information Management – Private Sector Network, United Nations; Director of Board, The Open Geospatial Consortium)
  • Dr Ian Oppermann (Co-Founder, ServiceGen; Industry Professor, UTS)
  • Dr Hermione Parsons (CEO & Managing Director, Australian Logistics Council)
  • Iain Russell (Industry CTO Enterprise & Government (National Markets & Biz Dev), Telstra)
  • Julian Szafraniec (Principal, SGS Economics & Planning)

Their responsibilities will include:

  • Recommending strategic priorities and opportunities that will lead to the delivery of high-value outcomes for industry stakeholders of AURIN.
  • Championing and developing existing and new networks of engagement between AURIN and the private sector to ensure that AURIN is responding to current and future needs.
  • Advising AURIN on the data and technical developments required to meet the current and future demands of its industry end-users and to support emerging technologies, emerging data types and international standards.

“I deem it a great honour to serve the AURIN Industry Advisory Council,” said Dr Zaffar Mohamed-Ghouse. “I look forward to contributing to the council, in the areas of policy, geospatial technology trends, data management, providing the strategy in strengthening role of Private sector partnership for developing a coordinated approach for Spatial Digital Twins and International partnerships.”

“I’m thrilled to join AURIN’s Industry Advisory Committee,” said Dr Hermione Parsons. “This collaboration aligns with our commitment to driving excellence and fostering innovation in the supply chain and freight logistics industry. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute our insights and experiences  to assist AURIN in meeting the needs of the broader geospatial industry.”

“Australia’s cities and regions are getting more complicated, with challenges cutting across a wide range of sectors. For example, climate change is making the housing crisis worse, which affects people’s ability to find jobs and access services,” said Julian Szafraniec. “Using spatial data for research is crucial to understanding and addressing these complex issues. However, gathering and organising the necessary data and research can often be a major obstacle. I’m excited to join the AURIN IAC and help AURIN elevate the use of urban data and research for the benefit researcher, business, communities, and the Australian economy.”

We’re incredibly grateful to all of these members for their time, and look forward to working with the IAC as AURIN deepens its relationships and collaborations with industry organisations and associations.
