On August 12, Minister for Education, Dan Tehan, announced new investment in cutting-edge technology, equipment and people to conduct research into Australia’s most critical national challenges. AURIN sits at the forefront of the response to those challenges, providing infrastructure that enables research into the livability, productivity, design and resilience of our cities and communities. This was recognised in the $1.65 million allocated to AURIN.
The funding was sought, and awarded, to support AURIN’s ambitious 2019-23 Strategy, which promises to keep pace with the ever growing and evolving needs of Australia’s social and urban researchers. Providing opportunity to work with emerging technologies and new forms of data, such as, machine learning and artificial intelligence; the Internet of Things; digital twins; real-time sensor data streams; 3-4D data; drone, LIDAR and satellite data.
Over the coming months, AURIN will begin building new, extended, and enhanced technologies to deliver on that promise. Coupled with new leadership and the launch of several major new projects, this year ushers in one of the most exciting periods of growth and change at AURIN since its inception. We are excited about sharing this journey with you and will soon be seeking your input into the future of AURIN technologies and projects. Stay tuned!
