AURIN APIS

AURIN has developed an Application Programming Interface (API) to allow users to access a whole range of datasets, without having to log in to the AURIN Portal.

The API is based on standards from the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), specifically CSW and WFS. Users can access these datasets via desktop GIS programs such as QGIS, mobile apps, and other programming or technical environments and platforms (such as Python, R, Jupyter) that support the standards.

WHAT DATA CAN I ACCESS THROUGH THE AURIN API?

The API contains data contributed to AURIN as part of activities to enhance research outcomes and knowledge about cities, regions and urban infrastructure. AURIN is funded by the Commonwealth government NCRIS program.

AURIN supports open data and FAIR data principles. Some datasets available through the API are licensed under Creative Commons  (CC-BY) licences while others used Creative Commons Non-Commercial licences (CCY-BY NC). This means that data contributors chose to licence their data for non-commercial use. AURIN supports the right of contributors to choose how to licence their data.  The metadata will provide information on each dataset’s licence.

Read more about Creative Commons licences here.

HOW DO I REGISTER TO USE THE AURIN API?

To register to use the API please read the  API Terms of Use and fill out the registration form. If you do not accept the Terms, you may not use the API.

AURIN USER COMMUNITY

AURIN is keen to build a user community around our API. This will help AURIN understand the demand for different datasets in the wider Australian community and identify what datasets may benefit the broader community.

If you would like to participate in this community or find out more about it, please sign up to our newsletter or contact us.

AURIN collects information about you as part of the registration process including your name, email address, the name of your organisation and other login credentials. We may use your personal information, such as your email address, to send you information about AURIN through our mailing lists.
